The artist like this website is 'a work in progress', as is my acknowledgement of myself as an artist.
Every now and then an image or a particular person catches my eye and calls out to become a painting. Maybe it's simply the lighting in the image or the glint in their eye. Then the challenge is how to capture that same essence in paint, or ink, or coffee... without it becoming a slavish realistic copy. Trying to use colour and gesture to convey that thing that called to me in the first place.
Ultimately it needs to be seen on a wall and take on a new life of it's own.
